How Self Hypnosis Works
Filed under Alternative MedicineDec 5Let’s see how hypnosis really works. As little children, we had the incredible ability to focus on one specific task at a time without the distracting thoughts in our subconscious that we often deal with as we get older. Supposedly, we get smarter as we age but consider this; a baby under 12 months old has the ability to learn complicated actions like, walking, talking and eating with utensils. After a serious accident some poor souls have to relearn such task and it takes them much longer than when they were children.
As we get older, we discover things like when you take a fall, you get hurt, and it is tough to remove such ingrained beliefs. By using self-hypnosis to clear your subconscious mind of your old beliefs and reprogramming your subconscious mind with new, more empowering beliefs you will gain new insight in ways to train your brain and learn new actions and habits that once seemed nearly impossible. A person’s personality and emotional drive are shaped by their subconscious mind and beliefs that were formed early on in life.
Hypnosis has been considered a mainstream form of therapy for many years now. We are all familiar with the pocket watch technique where the watch swings slowly back and forth before the subject’s eyes. The goal of self-hypnosis is to help the users eliminate fears, insecurities, limiting beliefs and habits that may be holding them back and to gain new beliefs and habits that help them reach their goals.
Anyone can be hypnotized but its effectiveness depends on how much you will allow yourself to accept the hypnosis process. Regardless, the process of hypnotizing oneself is fairly simple. The hypnosis process centers on several basic steps. It is the way that these steps are achieved that differs from technique to technique.
Achieving a state of complete relaxation is the first step in the hypnosis process. The mind experiences many different levels of sleep. The state that you are in when you wake to your alarm in the morning is different than when you are under deep anesthesia when undergoing an operation. The state of relaxation that is required for self-hypnosis is somewhere between being alert and awake to light sleeping.
The second step in the hypnosis process is to concentrate on a phrase, an idea, or a suggestion. This is a more heightened state of concentration than you practice on a normal day. Once these steps are achieved, you will become immobile during hypnosis. You will also experience a heightening of all five of your senses. It is called “hyper-awareness” and it happens naturally when a person is able to increase their concentration during complete relaxation. You will also experience REM, or rapid eye movement. This does not mean that you are technically asleep.
Under self-hypnosis you are able to wake yourself up at any given time, which is not the case when you are normally sleeping.
You need to allow your willpower to push you into submission for self-hypnosis to help you change bad habits or hardships you me have. Initial momentum to do something is provided by the subconscious mind, but the willpower to actually take action is provided by the conscious mind. It will be constant struggle to make changes in your thinking without proper willpower. Hypnosis itself requires willpower and commitment to be successful.
Self-hypnosis is a fantastic way to break old habits and build new empowering ones. Learn more with our free newsletter.. Also published at How Self Hypnosis Works.
